Paint Products:

  • Base coat: Signature EE2112B Grass Lake
  • Metallic wall paint: Brilliant Metals EE2128 Polished Aqua
  • Slate Glaze
  • Rust Glaze
  • Fluid Micaceous Iron Oxide
Brushes and Tools:
  • Roller frame
  • Roller cover
  • Brush
  • Natural sea sponge
  • Badger Softener brush
  • Cotton rag
  • Water bottle (optional)

Painting Instructions:

Step 1. Roll base coat over surface and allow to dry.

Step 2. Roll metallic wall paint over surface and allow to dry.

Step 3.  With a damp sponge, sponge on the Rust and Slate glaze colors randomly.  Rinse out sponge in between colors. Then, sponge on a thin amount of the Micaceous Iron Oxide.  Soften with a Badger Softener brush.

Step 4.  Spray surface with water to create water marks (optional).  Allow a few moments for the water to reactivate the glaze and then soften the color with the Badger Softener brush.  The water will “open up” spots that resemble the pitted surface of rusted metal.

Step 5.  Continue to add more layers of sponged on glaze and moisten the surface until the finish is complete.  Allow to dry.

Clean Up:  Wash hands and tools in soap and water.  Keep tools wet while working to prevent permanent adhesion of the acrylic materials.

Surface Preparation:

General: A clean, wax free, non-greasy surface is recommended.  High gloss surfaces may need scuffing to improve adhesion.  GOLDEN Glaze is formulated to work best over a satin sheen base coat.  Gels and texture products may be put over any sheen base coat.

Masonry/Stucco: New masonry needs to be fully cured and primed with a suitable masonry primer.

Wood: Raw wood may be painted or stained directly, but be aware that water based materials can cause grain raising.  See “General” instructions above for guidance on previously painted surfaces.

Metal: Painting direct to metal requires a suitable primer for the specific metal type.  See “General” instructions above for guidance on previously painted surfaces.

Glass: Painting direct to glass is possible; primers and GOLDEN GAC 200 aid in adhesion.

Fabric, Canvas, and Paper: Paint direct or use GOLDEN Mediums as a size, to increase launderability or seal the surface.
