Paint Products:

  • Black Gesso
  • White Gesso
  • Fluid Iridescent Bronze

Brushes and Tools:

  • Small Paint Brush
  • Foam Roller
  • Water

Painting Instructions:

Step 1.  Measure surface and tape off the top half.  Using a foam roller, apply Black Gesso to this portion of the surface.  Pull up tape and allow to dry.

Step 2.  Repeat step 1 on the bottom half, but instead apply White Gesso.

Step 3.  Using water and Fluid Iridescent Bronze, dip paint brush into water then into bronze and allow the water to thin the paint. Use the paint brush, flicked and or dripped to splatter the paint across the Kinwashi paper. As the drops hit the absorbent surface of the Japanese paper, a green ring of pigment will appear as a halo around the bronze. Repeat doing this until happy with the look. Allow to dry.

Options: Try this on other Japanese Rice papers. Vary the basecoats. You will find that by gluing the stained Kinwashi (glue with Soft Gel Matte) over different basecoats will affect the halo of green. Try a pink, Napthol Red Light and Titanium White, and a bright Diarylide Yellow.

Important:
Golden Artist Colors provides these recipes as points of departure for exploring Golden products in faux finishing applications.

GOLDEN strongly recommends samples be created before attempting to apply these techniques to walls, some techniques will be difficult to remove or to cover at a later date.

Please contact the technical support team before application if there are concerns or questions at 1-800-959-6543.
