Gloss Effect:

How do I achieve a high gloss effect with your acrylic paints and gels?
There are several ways to achieve a high gloss effect with acrylics. First, mix in a gloss medium or gel into the paints. Fluid Acrylics are about the same consistency as the GAC 500, and for better leveling use Polymer Medium (Gloss) or Self-Leveling Clear Gel. The Heavy Body (tube thickness paints) are most similar in consistency to Regular Gel Gloss. Soft Gel, Heavy Gel, and Extra Heavy Gel are all the same gel, but vary in thickness. GOLDEN High Solid Gel Gloss has a different acrylic and many people believe offers a higher gloss and better depth. Depending on how you paint, you can add as little as 25% to the paints or as much 10:1, 20:1 or more. Aside from increasing or decreasing gloss and viscosity, adding gels is a great way to alter the paint specifically to your needs. Extending with gels and mediums also lowers the overall cost without sacrificing quality.

Second, apply layers of gloss gels or medium over the artwork. While covering your work with a thick layer of milky material can be intimidating, it does create some great depth and gloss, and almost always intensifies the colors underneath.

Finally, simply apply the isolation coat (Soft Gel Gloss 2:1 with water) and either the Polymer or MSA Varnish Gloss when the artwork is complete. This process will add a protective layer to the paints from grime and ultraviolet rays. Please visit our web site and do a search on the above mentioned products.
