Paper:

To paint with acrylics on paper, are there certain types of paper to use or is there a way to prepare the paper for acrylic applications?
The most archival papers are going to be made of 100% cotton rag, not wood pulp. And since acrylics are alkaline when wet, essentially pH neutral when cured, there isn't any needed preparation for paper. However, some people do like to coat the paper with Gesso or Matte Medium.
