Some colors seem weaker than others. How do I choose strong colors?
One of the best ways to indicate a GOLDEN paint's pigment strength is the "tint". You can get one of our Tint Charts with the hand painted color charts. Our tints are done by mixing 10 parts Titanium White to 1 part paint color. Very light or weak tints commonly (there is always exceptions) indicate a paint with a larger pigment size. Dark tints indicate paints with a very small pigment size, and therefore we can load much more pigment into paints made with it. These kinds of pigments are also have excellent transparency and are usually the organic pigments, such as Quinacridones, Hansas and Phthalos. When you get the Hand Painted Color Charts, the glossier colors in the Heavy Body Line, will be these organic colors. The other issue is pigment load. Practically all of our paint lines are made with the same amount of pigment, as much as possible without sacrificing film strength.
