FAQ: GOLDEN Varnishes
GOLDEN VARNISHES

Varnish Over Wax:

Can I varnish over beeswax for UVL protection??
This is a tough application for most products. Wax is a natural waterproofing material and therefore acrylics do not adhere well to it. So Polymer Varnish and the acrylics are not advised.

In terms of solvent borne materials, like the MSA Varnish, they may not work, but if tried, it should be done with care, as the beeswax may melt from the solvents. We suggest you contact R&F Handmade Paints, who make several encaustic products. Their web address is www.rfpaints.com.
