Characteristics of Matte Acrylics:

Do you have a range of opaque paints? I heard you were coming out with a line.
We believe you are referring to the new Matte Fluid Line of colors. If you contact your GOLDEN Customer Service Rep here, they can get some samples of these paints to you.

Opacity in paint is a factor of pigment load, inherent pigment properties, thickness of film, and the use of opacifiers or other additives. The Matte Fluids are thicker than the regular GOLDEN Fluids, but also have excellent leveling and covering power due to the matting agent added to them. We have found other opacifiers commonly used in house paints, hobby paints, and even artist paints tend to lighten the value and lessen the chroma or brightness of the pigment.

Pyrrole Reds and Oranges, Cerulean Blues, Hansa Yellow Opaque and the majority of the earth colors
all are known for having much better opacity than Quinacridones, Phthalos and others. However, even these more transparent colors will have much better coverage without brush stroke than Fluid Acrylics even though they contain the same pigment load.

We also have High Load Acrylics, which are a lot like Matte Fluids, but these have the highest pigment concentration of any of our paints. They were originally developed as a line of colored gessos, but are also a great paint line. High Load Acrylics have been produced for many years. Charts and samples can also be obtained through your Customer Service Rep.

I am having trouble finding information on your Matte Fluids. Do they exist?
The reason you are having a hard time finding information about the GOLDEN Matte Fluids is because they are a relatively new product line for us.

Matte Fluids were developed in the custom lab to meet specific needs of one of our customers and we found ourselves selling them to more and more artists. Eventually, these paints moved from a purely "custom" line, where there was a mixing and matching fee attached to the product price, to "standard custom" line where they can be purchased in small quantities and there isn't any additional fees.
