FAQ: GOLDEN Gels & Mediums
GOLDEN GELS & MEDIUMS
Printer Friendly VersionPrinter Friendly Version
Removal:

Is there a way to dissolve matte medium without affecting a pencil drawing underneath? The drawing was done on a gessoed canvas, and I'm getting pencil smears.
Essentially, there is no solvent that can remove just the Matte Medium and not remove the pencil line or the acrylic Gesso underneath. We would suggest GOLDEN Airbrush Transparent Extender, sprayed lightly with an airbrush or spraying device offering very good atomization (Prevail® Sprayer, etc.) over the drawing. Coats should be slowly built up until a glossy finish develops in the dried film. After which, Matte Medium can be applied without smearing the pencil work. If enough layers of the GOLDEN Airbrush Transparent Extender are applied to effectively seal off the surface, and then one or two coats of Matte Medium are applied, the drawing should not be affected by color washes.
