Paste Paint
High Viscosity Acrylic Color

Lightfastness, Permanence, Opacity & Transparency Chart

Paste Paints possess an extremely viscous (clay-like) consistency. Designed to be much thicker than regular acrylic paints, they must be applied with a palette knife or trowel. They offer the ability to achieve encaustic-like qualities while using a durable, permanent medium and may be layered, knifed or carved. Paste Paints can be used with Paste Gel and other acrylics for a myriad of unique textured effects.

The consistency of the Paste Paints is significantly influenced by temperature. Colder temperatures will serve to increase the viscosity, making the product more difficult to work with. Artists will want to consider this factor when deciding where they will store the Paste Paints in their studio. Planning may also be required around their use. It is also important to inspect new goods recently received, as cold temperatures during shipment are the norm during the winter months. Warming the product to 75-110°F (24-43°C) will decrease the viscosity and allow for easier application. Such warming can be accomplished in one of two ways: store product in warm (but not hot) environment or "soak" sealed container of Paste Paints in warm water. In either case, allow sufficient time for entire contents of container to equilibrate to warmer temperature before applying. DO NOT MICROWAVE or place in conventional oven.
