What is Digital Mixed Media

ComparisonPaint, print, photography, digital, handmade or reproduced…

These seemingly divergent media are merging as artists are experimenting with bringing these traditions together in extremely rich and interesting ways.

As these experiments in innovation and creativity expand, the versatility of acrylics is at the forefront. To assist artists in this arena, GOLDEN introduces three Digital Grounds and two UV protective Gel Topcoats.

These products literally free digital images from the confines of prepared, commercial print media. The virtual brushstrokes of programs such as Photoshop® can finally take on weight and enter the rich material world of acrylic gels, mediums and colors.

Within the pages of Mix More Media™ we walk through the basics of how these materials work, the ways they increase the quality of your images and methods to use them in your art.

We would like to offer a special thanks to Dorothy Simpson Krause, Bonny Lhotka and Karin Schminke, known collectively as Digital Atelier®, who have encouraged and inspired us as we developed the content for Mix More Media™.

As pioneers in the integration of traditional art materials with inkjet printing, their book, Digital Art Studio: Techniques for Combining Inkjet Printing with Traditional Art Materials, Watson-Guptil, 2004, offers many advanced techniques that involve multiple layers of printing, painting, and the incorporation of various other mediums and collage elements into the final piece.
