We’ve been in business since 1938, and in our current location for over 20 years. In fact, we’re such a well-known fixture in San Francisco that the guidebooks refer to the neighborhood as the “Flax District.” We also have parking, a rare commodity in this city.

Our 30,000-square-foot store is a primary destination for people looking to fulfill creative ideas. In our customers’ words, our product collection as a whole is “awe-inspiring.” We also have great staff members with extensive experience and knowledge; in the fine art department you'll find several painters ready to answer your questions.
It’s our belief that workshops and educational programs are a great way to grow comfort and knowledge, and to break down the wall of intimidation that surrounds the process of making art. We have educational programs running on a regular basis and also promote art awareness by donating gallery space to non-profit groups for rotating month-long exhibitions.
