GOLDEN Employees Volunteer Their Time to Clean up Local Community Roads in Support of Earth Day 2007

– Columbus, NY, May 4, 2007

After two weeks of weather delays, Golden Artist Colors, Inc. employees were finally able to celebrate Earth Day today by volunteering their time to help clean up garbage on the roadsides of Columbus.  GOLDEN, a company committed to supporting its local community, asked for employees to volunteer two hours of their time for this event.  A similar company event was organized in 2005.  This year, the cleanup was supported with a donation of a roll-off container by Bert Adams Disposal.  This will be used to transport the debris to the landfill for disposal.  In addition, another GOLDEN supplier, xpedx, donated all of the gloves needed for cleanup participants.  Of its 130 full-time employees, over 60% participated in the event.

“The cleanup effort in 2005 was such a positive one that we decided to volunteer our time again,” said GOLDEN CEO, Mark Golden.  “Employees here at GOLDEN have committed to a legacy that doing good things creates good business.  It’s one more way for us to support our local community.”

One of the benefits of being an employee at GOLDEN is that all full-time employees may use 40 hours per year of paid Community Service time.  This event is one way that staff can use that time.  If employees serve as a volunteer for a fire association, police force or emergency squad, they have access to 80 hours per year of Community Service time.

Employees will be working in pairs for the cleanup and the goal at the end of the day is to clean up all 48 miles of the Town of Columbus maintained highway.  “We were pleased to hear of GOLDEN employees’ efforts to help clean up the roads in Columbus again this year,” said Columbus Town Supervisor, George Coates.  “They are outstanding corporate citizens and what’s most commendable is that they weren’t asked to do the cleanup - the company did it all on its own.”
