From the Grounds Up
Date: June 17, 2006

From the Grounds Up: (2) 1-Hour Demonstration of Acrylic Grounds & Gels
Join Massachusetts-based painter Declan Halpin for a fast-paced, informative demonstration of Acrylic Grounds and Gels. We'll start by exploring a variety of different ways you can prepare the surface on which you'll paint. By controlling absorbancy, texture, and color, you can create a "blank slate" that fits your specific needs. Specific attention will be given to preparing surfaces for watercolor and acrylic washes. The second half hour will examine the array of Gels available to artists and their specific attributes. Declan will explain viscosity, rheology, sheen, extensions, glazes, and how these qualities affect your painting. You'll learn how to formulate your own blends of acrylic materials for your purposes.

If you're using acrylic paints or plan to experiment with them, you'll learn a lot from this demonstration.
