Bill Berthel Recognized for Outstanding Service by ASTM, American Society for Testing and Materials

Bill Berthel, GAC's Lab Administrator and R&D Projects Coordinator, was recently recognized for outstanding service by ASTM, American Society for Testing and Materials. Bill served as chairman of the ASTM subcommittee responsible for DO1.57.04 specifications for artist acrylic dispersion paints. The subcommittee has most recently been researching tint strength standards for acrylic color and gesso strength standards, in an effort to create recommendations for the industry in these two areas. ASTM presents one such award annually. Bill has been a member of ASTM for about 5 years and served with GOLDEN colleagues Ben Gavett and Mark Golden. "The standards that are being written, " says Bill, "are focused around safety, compliance and quality. In benefit to artists this work creates a more customer focused marketplace and eliminates the buyer beware mentality."
